For import and export of goods from Türkiye, these precautions should be understood!

Release Time:2023-08-14 08:49:26

As a country across Eurasia, Türkiye has a diversity of religious beliefs and national customs. However, due to historical reasons, Türkiye's economy is not the most developed in Eurasia. However, according to relevant statistical data, Türkiye's imports of Chinese goods account for a certain proportion, so this is undoubtedly an excellent choice for foreign trade friends. But while developing customers in Türkiye, it is necessary to remember the following three points for foreign trade and freight forwarding friends!

First and foremost, foreign exchange collection

The biggest concern for trade is that the money cannot be collected, and the payment method is particularly important in foreign exchange collection. However, because Türkiye's domestic deposit interest rate is high, when doing business with Türkiye businessmen, they will ask for credit (or release accounts), that is, to give an account period or hold down a batch of payments. They usually like to write you a bad check and get such a bad check. If Türkiye businessmen do not pay when the check is due, they can go to court directly with the bad check endorsed by the bank. Don't be soft hearted.

Some people use personal property as collateral to issue bills of exchange, but do not agree to such an operation. It is best not to accept such personal mortgage bills, as the risk is too high.

The most secure payment method is certainly sight letter of credit, which is the safest payment method in international trade, and sight credit is also the safest payment method in letters of credit. Therefore, in international trade operations, sight letter of credit is more commonly used. The so-called sight letter of credit is a letter of credit for payment at sight, that is, a letter of credit that allows payment to be made against a documentary draft or document at sight. Because the risk of sight letter of credit is relatively low, it is also a preferred operating mode for banks, and the risk of sight letter of credit is relatively high for banks, so the difficulty of issuing sight letter of credit in banks is also relatively high. In dealing with Türkiye businessmen, we should strive for sight L/C as the payment method even if we allow some price.

2、 Customs policies that cannot be ignored

There are several customs policies of Türkiye that need to be understood. Otherwise, the goods will go wrong, be detained by the customs, and finally be dumped and sold at a low price. The only loss is foreign trade itself. So timely understand customs policies to avoid unnecessary losses.

The following points are the customs policies of Türkiye that foreign trade and freight forwarding friends should know

Customs policy

If the inbound goods are left at the customs for more than 4 months, the customs may treat the batch of goods as unowned and have the right to auction them. So no matter what problems occur locally, it is important to pay attention to this time point, as not recognizing it may result in losing everything.

According to the regulations of Türkiye Customs, if the goods need to be pulled back or transferred after arriving at the port, there must be a formal "Notice of Rejection" issued by the consignee. Without this notice, the goods are not allowed to be pulled back or transferred.

If the goods are auctioned off by customs for various reasons, the original importer is the first person with the right to make the purchase, that is, the first purchaser. (Please note that many illegal enterprises in Türkiye just seize this provision and use various means to delay time, leading to the final customs auction, and these illegal traders buy at a very low price.)

3、 Certification issues related to contracts and customs declarations

According to the regulations of Türkiye government, in order to reduce the tax evasion of importers such as low value customs declaration and misreporting of goods, the government has a hidden rule (internal regulations): for imported goods from Far East countries (including China), the import customs declaration requires that the sales contract and export declaration form be certified by Türkiye's embassy and consulate in China. Especially if there are authentication contract requirements in the terms of the letter of credit, authentication is necessary. The export company should be certified by Türkiye's embassy and consulate in China, and go through the relevant procedures to facilitate the smooth settlement of foreign exchange by the exporter and the smooth customs clearance by the importer. Otherwise, if there are problems later on, it will be very troublesome.
